Virtual Console is the name given to re-releases of classic games for the Wii, 3DS, and Wii U. The first Virtual Console releases were on November 19, 2006 with the opening of the Wii Shop Channel.

Some of the Wii Virtual Console ROMs match 1:1 of copies of ROMs found on the Internet indicating that it was created with fanmade dumping tools. NES games use the iNES ROM header, which is most commonly used in NES ROMs across the Internet and was actually created for an early NES emulator with the same name.
