This page describes various hardware used for Wii U game and system development.

This page is only meant to provide a brief summary of each; more information is available at each individual page.

Almost all models supported both Bluetooth, and Wireless Connectivity (for the DRC) over a wired RF cable, as well as over their normal radio frequencies.


CAT-DEV

Main Article: CAT-DEV

The CAT-DEV was the main development system for the Wii U, featuring full debugging support, an internal hard drive of 320Gbs, and the ability to load critical games, titles, and files over a network connection, SD Card, or a USB connection. There is no Disc Drive present.

CAT-R

Main Article: CAT-R

The CAT-R was much more of the "test-kit" as opposed to the more debugging, and development utility of the CAT-DEV. It did not feature an enhanced memory bank, and contained a disc drive capable of reading dev-signed discs along with it's wired connection.

CAT-R Writer

The CAT-R writer was a disc drive capable of writing Wii-U blu-ray-like discs.

CAT-R Discs

CAT-R discs are blank discs that can have media recorded on them to be used on a CAT-R system.
