There is an absolutely monstrous amount of data in this archive, and it is mostly due to there being multiple hundreds of copies of the same folder containing Wii system firmware, each with just maybe two or three tiny little differences.

There is an absolutely monstrous amount of data in this archive, and it is really just millions and billions of copies of the same 3 or 4 different kinds of folders, each with just maybe two or three tiny little differences in revisions or patches. There is most definitely an easier way to store all of this data without taking up 12.03 gigabytes (that's compressed!)

The data in ios-releases is mostly the following things:
 +
 +
* Firmware images (to be used with sdboot)
 +
* System menu WADs
 +
* Firmware WADs
 +
* Duplicates of the "ng/sw" development branch from BroadOn
 +
* Duplicates of the "sc" development tree from BroadOn
 +
* Duplicates of the "gba" development tree from Broadon
 +
* IOS binaries
 +
* NetCard source code
