ios-releases.tar.7z is an archive in three compressed parts containing a massive amount of development files and data related to IOS. It was leaked to /ppg/ at the same time as wiidump.7z and the source code for Pokemon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, on October 17, 2020.

 +
Due to its large size, complex folder structure, and the majority of the archive's contents being nested within several layers of compressed and archived files, the full contents of the archive have not been explored yet, however it is believed to have the source code and module binaries for each release of IOS, as well as other related files.

The data in ios-releases is mostly the following things:
 +

 +
*Firmware images (to be used with sdboot)
 +
*System menu WADs
 +
*Firmware WADs
 +
*Duplicates of the software branches of multiple BroadOn source trees, including NG, GBA, SC, and NC
 +
*IOS binaries
 +
*NetCard source code
 +
*Template private key files for a hardware security module
 +

 +
Prior to being leaked, the existence of a folder named "ios-releases" floating around somewhere was already known by some, and there was anticipation of it being leaked due to it being mentioned in the files from depotrvl.tar in unsorted.7z, and gba.tar in netcard.7z.

Although in a TAR file, and originating from BroadOn's fileservers, ios-releases was not one of the BroadOn source trees. It was not a separate development project or repository being worked on, it was simply a folder on BroadOn's servers used to store release builds, archives, and other data. During the development of the Wii IOS, ios-releases was the folder on BroadOn's servers where every release build of the IOS source code (think "Releases" on a GitHub page) would be exported to.LeakNavbox
