Virtual Console

Virtual Console is the name given to re-releases of classic games for the Wii, 3DS, and Wii U. The first Virtual Console releases were on November 19, 2006 with the opening of the Wii Shop Channel.

On the Wii, one big complaint was that Nintendo basically "downloaded a ROM from the Internet and sold it back to you". Super Mario Bros. for example, 1:1 matched a ROM of it founded on the Internet. It also used the iNES ROM format made by someone outside of Nintendo made for emulators and such.
