Wiki Goals
We are looking for contributors to assist with the following projects on RGDWiki. While many individual articles need improvement, these are things that anyone who is interested can contribute to without too much subject matter knowledge. Help us further our goal of documenting console hardware, firmware, and other oddities that fall between the cracks in other communities!
Sane layouts, categories, and navigation
Our pages are a tangled mess with an inconsistent mix of different modalities tying them together - this is partially a consequence of the wide and diverse spectrum of things we aim to cover, but there is much work to be done that would help make the wiki more navigable, readable and encourage the creation of more pages.
This includes sane splitting of pages into appropriate subpages, making appropriate list and portal pages, making categories and ensuring pages are properly categorized, making navboxes, making infoboxes, and properly tagging pages with templates such as the stub tag.
As a reference, the Wii->Development Hardware & Prototypes schema on the main page is currently considered to be the gold standard for how information should be laid out on the wiki - but many more improvements can be made here too, like proper navbox use.
Cosmetic assistance & main page design
We're looking for help creating a custom CSS theme that maximizes readability while maintaining distinctive RGD branding, as well as more appealing visual assets and templates throughout the wiki - main page design is a particular concern. We're looking for distinctive, eye-catching and visually appealing widgets, along the lines of FamiWiki or the TWC Archive.
Our main page isn't very eye-catching. We want something friendly and approachable, with dense information content and a variety of widgets to pull people in, show them snippets of our work and point them towards more interesting articles on the wiki. Better examples of wiki main page design include TCRF and the TWC Archive - we highly encourage those interested to take inspiration, propose designs, and above all assist with implementation work to help make the wiki more appealing to new users and encourage more readers and contributors to join our effort.
Maintenance of existing content
Lots of pages on the wiki were last touched several years ago, by young and inexperienced authors writing down information which has since been superseded by more recent research. Adopt a page, clean up its grammar, add citations, search up its topic in RGD and add info, put your own spin on it - all manner of updates are appreciated.
Add what you know!
RGDWiki is meant to be an open wiki which does not discriminate particularly on notability to a given set of topics or the background of its authors. While a certain quality standard must be maintained, we highly encourage you to add any of your own personal research, documentation or notes to the wiki, even if it's in a rough form. I will not bite - maximizing contributions to make the most of our potential is the top priority, and with the expected low volume of contributions I will do my best to personally address and assist with each one.
