The Nintendo DS (codenamed Nitro) is a foldable dual-screened handheld system released by Nintendo on November 21, 2004 (North America). It was the first console to be released in the 'DS' series of Nintendo handhelds.
A slimmer model named Nintendo DS Lite was released in 2006 that featured brighter screens and improved battery life.
